Has anyone been to the Insomnia Gaming festival?

Options
I would like to take my sons, but not sure if its suitable for my youngest who is 10.
Some of the Youtubers that he watches are going to be there so he'd love that.

Has anyone been, and what did you/your children think of it?

I know a few people that went a couple years on the bounce - I heard it's good but I couldn't say if it's suitable for children, from pictures I'd say it's OK, I'd imagine that language may get a bit obscene at moments (after a video I saw), but I'd perhaps do a search on the net to see if it's a suitable place.

We've not been to this game show, however I took my 10 year olds to the recent event at Earl's Court, so I'm presuming it will be like that one. They had a sectioned off area for games for over 18's and games like call of duty etc were also screened off. People were in cosplay which they thought was fun, until a fully made up zombie stumbled up to them!
Overall they really enjoyed it, there was plenty of games for their age group and it was worth going. They definitely want to go again, although the cost of tickets was quite high!

I'd say see who the game developers are who are going and base the decision on their most popular and most recent releases - by doing that it should give you an indication whether it's suitable for your sons

    Thanks guys :)

I don't think I can afford it now, so will reconsider for next year.

I went to i20 YEARS ago. I mean years and years ago. Back then is was mostly teenagers and a bunch of twenty somethings. From memory we got a lift and were picked up a few days later.

I'm not sure how it's changed but it was typically a boys atmosphere, swearing and all. That said security was pretty hot on it back then.

Thanks TMCS :) Its i53 this year, so its been a while ;)
Its moved to Coventry now, so a trek for us, plus an overnight stay in a Travelodge/Premier Inn.
This close to Christmas I don't think its doable for us, but will do it next year for sure :)

Going back many years I used to go to some of the early ones, security was improving back then (this was in the very early days of it), but there was a fair bit of swearing and as the day/night got on more people would get a little tipsy.

But as I say this was a long time ago (about a decade), so I'm not sure what it's like now, as it was continuously improving in organisation back then as the guys running it learned what worked, what didn't, and what was needed to get it better.

One thing I suspect hasn't got better will be the likes of the food situation as most venues like their own concessions to run things like burger stands, and back in the early 2000's when they were in Newbury the race course food concessions were over priced and quite frankly dire (I have memories of bacon butties that had about two small rashers of what seemed like barely boiled bacon that cost a premium), so if you were to go remember a packed lunch for the first day, then if you spend more than a day a trip to a local cafe/supermarket is probably a must for food (the group I was with tended to go out to something like Pizza hut in the evening as it was cheaper and better than the race course food, and better than the Dominos pizza that you could get delivered to the desk).
