Shortening sleeves - how easy is this?

I've got a new coat and jacket which I've bought for interviews but as is always the way for a shortarse the sleeves make me look like my mum's bought them for me to grow into.
I have done basic sewing machine stuff, mainly in straight lines on things that don't matter, and I'm not too bad on hand sewing due to the number of pairs of trousers I've had to shorten.
How easy would lined sleeves be to alter and still look ok, and what's the best way?
Thanks

If you unpick the bottom seam between the lining and the fabric, you can then turn them up and carefully slip stitch them back together so it doesn't show. You may need to cut off the surplus fabric and neaten the edges (so it doesn't fray).
Easy enough to do, but just a bit fiddly.0 -
Exactly the way I would do it too.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

If the fabric is not too thick you can just take up the lining. This is easy, just decide how much shorter you want the sleeve to be and take a tuck in the lining half that much, (cos it will be double). Hand sew it with little stitches and then pull the sleeve right side out again and the tuck will take the sleeve up with it. Press a bit to get a neat finish and that's it. Hope this makes sense.0

That's what my mother suggested, but I think with the coat the fabric is too thick and it wouldn't look right. Might be ok with the jacket though. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
