Can someone explain to me what the point of Minecraft is?

Minecraft was created to keep my 9yr old and 6yr old sons from fighting with each other on Saturday afternoons.

They go to each others worlds and spend all day building 'stuff' and doing 'stuff'. I'm quite happy when they tell me they've been getting on and can spend literally 30 mins telling me all about how fantastic the things they built were before giving me a guided tour of the huge 'castle' they built me and how there's a portal to hell (or something like that) in the dungeon.

It's beyond me but if it keeps the kids happy and gets them to be creative I'm all for it!

I picked up minecraft when it was still in beta, I still play it once in a while.

And no it is not just lego for kids.

Minecraft is a complicated or simple as you play it, I remember seeing a video of someone who built a working slot machine using logic gates.
