What happened to Final Fantasy?

Options
7,8 and 9 were all wonderful creations, and even 10 had its good points.
But recently I buy it hoping for it to return to its former glories, only to be disappointed every time.

True, I didn't enjoy that game at all. I didn't think 12 was so bad but 13 was awful. Never bothered with part 2.

I started playing Resonance of fate and enjoyed that much more.

Never heard of Resonance of fate, but glad you found an alternative.
I just gave up on FF.

I've heard good things about 14, but 7 will always be my favourite :).

I just went to complete that for a second time yesterday.

The final battle is a fairly drawn-out affair including three boss battles and getting to hexes to flip switches - easily takes over an hour of combat. I was on the last boss, just Resonancing them to death, perhaps two minutes from the end, when I switched Leanne to grenades. Her gun-toting model disappeared... but her grenade-holding model never showed up. The game had glitched.

I can't be bothered to work through all that again!

But I still recommend it as the best non-traditional JRPG of the generation, with Lost Odyssey being the best traditional, and Nier being uncategorisical.

That is harsh :(, I've had games glitch at really bad moments as well like in Skyrim when everything freezes and I haven't saved for an hour , or in Mass Effect 2 when my Shepard glitched on top of a low wall outside the game map and I had to restart a battle.

I have Nier :), sadly haven't played it much, I have a bit of a backlog. It's waiting along with many including Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning and I still need to finish Silent Hill downpour. Oh and Resident Evil 6 :o.

FF14 is a awful game imo.
BUT, if you like WoW and similar games to it, you might like it. I just found it rather fiddly, and tiresome. the map was hard to use, basically, I hated it within the first 2/3 hours of playing it.
Although, tbh, I hate games where you have to customize a character right down to the shade of blue for the eyes. I find things like that a complete waste of time.
And DH got it because he saw a review and thought I'd like it, and even he got fed up after a while.
I ended up buying the remastered FFX (pity it came with FFX-2 which is also pants) which I played the first time around and enjoyed, but cocked it up completely. Did it this time though..yay!!
BTW, they really should consider remastering FF7. that seems to be a lot of people's favourite. Prefer FFX myself, I love the Aeons part of it, but I did enjoy 7,8,9,10 & 12. FF13 was complete rubbish, they completely ruined the battle system, which was a shame, because the video previews looked amazing.
BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

comping = nowt more thrillin' than winnin':T :j

I wish they would, I have the film FF7 advent children (Japanese but it has optional English subs and a back story on the extras) on DVD, it's set two years after FF7. There's also the Crisis Core games but I'd love a remastered FF7.

I'd suggest putting Nier to the top of the backlog - it's only about 20-22 hours to get to Ending B. There's a reasonably easy achievement for getting to Ending A in 15 hours, but if you stop there then the game is perhaps a 7 out of 10 - keep going to Ending B and it's easily a 9 or better, and you don't replay the entire game. But I can't reveal any more than that without spoiling it. Just PLAY TO ENDING B! (C and D are not essential in the way that B is)

I suspect that the review scores for Nier easily show which reviewers stopped at Ending A and which continued to Ending B. ;)

Don't prioritise Amalur - there's nothing wrong with it, it's a perfectly serviceable action RPG, but it's far too easy (unless you mod it on PC), it takes too long to play (as it was going to be a MMORPG), and it just adds nothing to gaming (WoW's assets, derivative powers/skills/loot, generic setting/story/side-quests).
