survey and insurance

About to see our advisor, buying a 115k house and I guess he's going to try sell insurance while I'm there, and upsell insurance, but what do I need?
Money is going to be quite tight so can't be without the insurance, but so many options, both myself and my wife work.

Don't agree to buy anything, say he can give you a quote if he wants but always shop around.

You'll need buildings and contents insurance. You may consider life insurance, health insurance, payment protection insurance. It all depends on your circumstants / needs.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • The only mandatory insurance is buildings insurance (not contents).

Everything beyond that is down to your circumstances and protecting you from financial hardship should a variety of things happen.

If you couldn't afford to replace essential items if you suffered a burglary, look at contents insurance.

If you couldn't afford to maintain household expenditure if you are seriously ill, look at critical illness cover or income protection.

If your spouse or family couldn't afford to maintain household expenditure and the mortgage should you die prematurely, look at life insurance.

I'd speak with a decent broker and they can help you plan for these kind of eventualities, just avoid a broker tied to one insurance provider.
