Mortgage fees

I have been offered some different mortgage deals by a broker but am confused by the different fees involved.
Is there any way round these? And why are they called different things?
Valuation fee - is this another for the survey element?
Arrangement fee / booking fee - how are these different?

I read an article in the trade press yesterday which listed over 20 terms that lenders use to describe fees on mortgage.
A valuation fee is the 'survey' fee. A booking fee is more likely to be required on application than an arrangement fee. However, the name of the fee does not guarantee it is charged in any particular way.
Section 8 of your mortgage illustration lists every fee payable, when it is due, and if it is refundable.
You won't be surprised to hear that fees charged on any product are not 'avoidable'.
It is your brokers job to clarify any confusion and recommend the most suitable product.I am a Mortgage Broker
