I shouldn't have to hire a van, the issue was with the road worthiness of the van, It had to have the following,

    1, New Discs
    2, New pads,
    3, New drums,
4, New calipers, ( the caliper wasn't even bolted in correctly, it was rubbing on the inside of the rim.
5, The pollen filter well was full of water,
    6, New clutch,
    7, New fly wheel,
    8, New wiring Module,
9, Complete service ( even the dealer advertised that it had one already)
    10, New DPF Filter,
11, Vacuum Pump for the brakes,
12, New Steering lock Column, The Dealer knew of the problem.
    13, Dual mass flywheel.
    14, Brake sensors.

This is only from what i can remember, When i asked the dealer if they did an oil change, His reply was, yes we have. I asked so why was the oil black and smelt burnt. His reply was well doesn't all oil turn black after you change it. That was his attitude towards it.

    Kraig

Why didnt you pick up some of this on the test drive?

If the caliper was rubbing against a wheel you would have heard and felt that.
How badly worn were the discs and pads? How thick were they?

You dont need new calipers if one comes loose. A new bolt maybe.

Pollen filter full of water, Common on many vehicles. Make sure the seal is fitted properly and the drain tubes are clear.

New clutch and flywheel, But you drove it away OK.

Same with the wiring module. How did you manage to drive it away?

A complete service? The dealer said the oil had been changed. It may have. But it could have been a long time since the last one and oil will go black quickly in a diesel. Unless you change it 3 times in one go.

    New DPF? Why?

Vacuum pump for the brakes. Failed to spot that on the test drive?

Brake sensors? ABS you mean? Warning lights on the dash when you bought it?

How long after buying it did you make the dealer aware of the faults?

  • Rather than going to court, you may be able to take the finance company to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

This might not be possible if it is a business loan but it is free (to you) so worth investigating.

Maybe start a thread on the motoring board or consumer rights (or both) and either link to this thread or post up the original question. You might find posters who about vans and or your rights will post on the respective board.

The finance company paid for all the repairs. Its the simple fact that it was sold to me and wasn't road worthy, The dealer should of made the vehicle road worthy. It wasn't fit for purpose. As for knowing about these faults. i had no idea until i took it to a garage, someone who i can trust and tell me what was the rubbing noise. If the dealer can fob me off by saying it had been checked before the sale of the vehicle why was there water in the pollen filter, why was the oil dirty and the air filter look like it had never been changed. I am no mechanic when it comes to knowing whats wrong with a vehicle. Do many people know what to look for ???

If you dont know what to look for you pay someone that does.

When it comes to cars i have a good idea so i know what to look for.

But when my boiler decided it didnt want to switch off when it reached the thermostat setting and decided it wanted to turn the house into a furnace i had no clue so got a man in that did know.

So much of this thread is strange

    - Did you test drive?
    - Did you get the van checked before you bought? (AA, for example, will do an inspection)
    - Were you able to drive then van?
    - Did it come with an MOT?
    - Is the garage you used reliable (or did they do a lot of unnecessary work)
    - How on earth does the finance company come into it? (They lent you money to buy a van? But the contract was between you and the dealer?)

Had you're own business and sat on your hands for 6 months?

If you used savings to pay the finance, you could have hired a van and continued working, earnings should have covered the cost . . .

When my van broke down I either fixed it or hired a van whilst someone else repaired it, this thread doesn't make sense.

    £6000 to repair it . . .

No i never just sat on my hands for 6 months, Its obvious you lot are a waste of time. You don't know what you are talking about. I'll get the help from someone who knows what they are talking about, rather than from people who probably dont have a clue and just want to put their own opinion.
