This sounds like a bargain, but it might be useful if you specified the size in litres, as this is how it is sold. I've had a look at their online shop and I see that they are advertising it as 100g, but this is just plain wrong, so it is hard to say how good a deal it is.

Sainsburys also currently have Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil on half price with 750ml at £2.37.

I must admit that I have never tried the really expensive Olive Oil, but for me Filippo Berio is without doubt the best. Happily I got half a dozen bottles of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil free on R&R from Tesco a few months ago, so I use it in all my cooking, as well as on salads etc.

Hmmm...£2.99 for three and a half ounces of olive oil doesn't sound much of a bargain to me!

Under £2 from Home BArgains. Not the same brand, but I am sure that just because it's 50% cheaper, it does not taste 50% worse.

Going to start a whole new debate now. Is Rapeseed oil better than Olive Oil ?.According to a telly prog I saw one Saurday morning it is supposed to be higher in Omega 3 and lower in cholestrol . Is this true? cause its a damn site cheaper !!!!. Looked at the label on the stuff I bought and compared it with my Olive oil and its 'fat stuff' looks comparable. Can anyone elighten me?

Did anyone ever figure out instore whether it was the 1litre of oil that was £2.99? We get through a lot of it so it would be worth a special trip. I do like this brand too...

BTW article in the paper yesterday saying v bad for you to use olive oil to cook with as it becomes transfat if you go above a very gentle heat. You're better off with the (much cheaper!) sunflower oil

From the Waitrose Website it is "Filippo Berio olive oil extra virgin (1litre)" (was £5.99 now £2.99 saving £3)

I was not aware of this, but I did know that you are as well to use ordinary Olive Oil in cooking as the extra refinement of Extra Virgin Olive Oil is lost in the cooking process. Reading up on the trans fat issue, it seems that this is still a bit of a controversial subject, but from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_oil there is the comment 'Some hydrogenation of oils occurs during cooking, causing normally healthy unsaturated fats like olive oil to convert to trans-fats. But in non-industrial settings this process does not occur at appreciable quantities'. In any case, I don't use it in things like deep fat frying, but in the gentle frying of onions, peppers etc. in the preparation of pasta sauce.
