Today has not been the best.
Cried at the physio both because of pain & frustration & well I dont know..........
The walker is now in the car & I will have to accept that I will have to use it.
My balance is shocking, my muscle tone is decreasing all the time & I am ever struggling to get up when I fall.

Mr SA has lost all his muscle tone and has no strength in his arms or legs. He can’t get himself up when he falls. That said because he has brain damage he’s not that conscious of it. So for someone like you who has all their faculties it must be very upsetting.Sending hugs xxI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)8

Delurking to say that at one point when bemoaning my arthritic fingers and my resistance to using a grip to open jars, it was someone on here who suggested that I should consider that I was actually protecting what function I still have. I know the walker is a hundred times greater than the grip but the same principle applies. Maybe try to think about minimising bruising and embarrassing moments. Also I’m sure you could pimp it.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. I know you think of the walker as a big step backwards and loosing independence Beanie, but in the same vein as INOD has said. Using a walker has to be less physically painful than keep falling…..the same for embarrassment when people see you fall and have to help you up. I know it’s different but when I first used hearing aids I grew my hair to hide them - I hated them with a vengeance which wasn’t me…..I’ve always had short hair. One day I was in a shop next to a man with hearing aids….I didn’t think any less of him so went and and my hair cut short again. I’m guessing you don’t think less of others using a walker. I do have an idea where you’re coming from. After I lost the use of my leg they brought me a frame and I asked for crutches instead. The physio said I wouldn’t manage them….I proved that I could. Something about a frame seems worse than sticks or crutches……but it’s got to be safer than keep falling for you. I’m not surprised you’re tearful it’s such a big thing for you. Upsetting as it is I hope the walker helps you maintain your independence and knowing what your sticks were like I can imagine you pimping it up as someone else mentioned. Here's to less falls!Mortgage OP 2025 £6250/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Oh beanie, I'm so sorry it's so upsetting for you. But the people on here who've already been through exactly the same, or something similar, are amazing people. And so are you. You can do it, and like them I think you might find that accepting the walker leads to more freedom. It might also lead to more strength - you'd be able to walk more, it could really help your health. I hope so, so much.2023: the year I get to buy a car7

Echoing what others are saying - the walker is you losing your independence, it's you KEEPING you independence by being strong enough to make hard choices.
Also glad you had chocolate to help make things feel at least a little better, and that someone stopped to help you. there are still good people out there despite what so many folk want us to believe.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
