Belling Cooker Hood faulty after only 2 years 4 months

Options
On 21-Jun-2012 I purchased a belling cooker (DB4900DFT_SS) and a matching belling cooker hood (BEL90CHIM_BK) from appliances online. I used my AMEX card to pay for the full amount of the items (total cost £1127.00). The cooker and hood were delivered on 30-Jun-2012 and fitted as part of our kitchen re-vamp on 14-Jul-2012.

Last week while using the hood I switched it to high speed #3 (possibly for the first time) and it slowed down after only a few seconds.

Now on #1 speed it is slower than previous, #2 speed gives no increase and #3 speed gives possibly the same as was prior on #1 speed.

I have spoken to a local domestic appliance repairer and he agrees with me that the hood should not have failed this soon. He also said that the fan was making noises suggesting that it may be eccentric (not circular).

I understand that I should be able to make a claim under section 75.

What I would like to know is who to approach first?
(AMEX/Belling/AO)
Regards
Mike Williams

You contact your credit card company first according to MSE article here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases
How do I make a Section 75 claim?

Firstly, remember this is a legal right. Martin's claimed under Section 75 a couple of times, once it was easy, the other time the provider kicked up a fuss. While credit providers are getting better, many will still talk about their own procedures.

To make a claim, you need to contact your credit card company (you can still claim on an account that's closed) not Visa, Mastercard, or Amex. So if you've got a HSBC Mastercard, you claim from HSBC, not Mastercard.

Similarly, if you're claiming for a sofa bought with instalment credit, your claim's with the finance company (the one you repay to) not DFS or SCS (though you're free to complain to them too).

Yet the experience can be slightly different depending on whether the retailer or supplier has or hasn't gone bust.

This is because you might not need to involve your credit card provider should you still be able to complain directly to the retailer
