Good evening fellow MFWs:j
I used to post here but have forgotten my log in, so will be starting again under another name - Peabrainer, cos that sums me up.
I am at that tricky but enviable stage, of nearly having paid off my mortgage and am down to the last 10 months! It has been a difficult and hard slog, and as the end date gets ever closer, I am actually finding things more difficult. I pay a whopping just shy of £2000 a month off, and have done so for a while. I know I am in a very lucky position to be able to do so, but have left myself very very skint in the process.
A little about me. Single parent of three lovely children, one at uni, one just starting work, and one doing A levels. My cunning plan is to pay off my mortgage, downsize, and gift my children cash so they can start on the property ladder much younger than I did. - That's the plan, but as they say, life is what happens when you are making other plans, so I am sure it will be a time of ups and downs.
I've also hit my 46th this year, gulp. So its really a time for re-assessing and making new plans for the future. At present I am a wage slave in a job I actually loathe, but which I am destined to continue with until I pay off the mortgage, at least. After that, I should have some more choices, I hope.
So, I hope you don't mind me re-joining the community, and hope some of you will read my ramblings.

Just wanted to say hi - I totally relate to the 'wage slave in a job I loathe' comment - I think it's scary how many people feel like this. I think it's quite easy to become trapped into earning a certain amount of money.
That said I am envious of the mortgage term you have left - we have 14 years and hoping to reduce to 8 or less! Only really started on this road a few months ago.
Will be reading your updates with interest.0 -
Well done. I hope everything works out, and you can help your kids and find a job you love.
My dad has worked very hard in his job, and was able to match me and my big sister deposits when we purchased our first homes. I know I owe him so much.
This 'matching' of our deposit worked well as we knew this was on the table for a long time and it helped us stay motivated in saving for the future in our first few years at work.
It also made it a bit less bank of dad. We also agreed to repay the amount if\when we could afford it or he needed it.0 -
Hello MFW wannabees!
Just a quick update, down to £14,000 now, so should be all paid off by august.
I am both incredibly proud of myself, and incredibly annoyed with myself at the same time. Proud because I will (hopefully) pay off mortgage this year, and annoyed because I overspent at Christmas and have left myself skinter than skint for January,
I am determined to continue with the crazy overpayments, though, no nice things, new clothes, or decorating till the evil mortgage is gone.
Also majorly looking for another job.
Aims for this year
1. Pay off mortgage
2. Start saving
3. Get a new job which I don't hate.
Many more goals, but all a bit too personal.
good luck to everyone in their mortgage journeys this year!
