Naturally Non Overweight People - What do you eat?
Comments

I am not so conscious with what I'm eating every day, but I am not overweight. I just don't eat in between meals or snacks. Instead, I drink lots of water to not feel hungry (we sometimes misinterpret hunger from thirst). I also do it as a routine to exercise and attend my Zumba class three times a week, or do the walking exercise before and after work.0

Another vote for my fitness pal. Its an excellent app and completely free. What also works well is a fit bit tracker and linking the 2 together. It is too simplistic to say that all you are doing with MFP is calorie counting though. It gives a break down of the basic food groups too and tells you what you should be taking in. So if you JUST count calories but still eat a lot of refined carbs you will still not be right.
It takes a lot of effort and a month or 2 to break all your diet habits but personally I have dropped 2 stone using this and focussing my training more on to cardio. I have not eaten a microwave meal in months and have managed to cut out almost all sugary drinks. I just drink water and tea now. I get food deliveries now once a week which force me to think about what I am going to eat based on what they put in the food boxes. I try and stick to lean meats and have almost cut out snacking bar the odd rich tea biscuit. Breakfast is usually porridge and a banana. tuna sandwich on malted bread and fruit at lunch, Nakd bars for snacks (strawberry is lush) and something I chuck together in the eve. No set recipes I just sort of cooked what was in .. I live on my own so no one else cares if it is pretty or not!! haha. I slipped in to snacking in work and before long didn't really pay much attention to what I was eating and dropped the amount of cardio. Its just will power and awareness that will do it. Not fad diets. You can not create calories you have to take them in so make sure what you take in is high value.0 -
I always eat cereal with soya milk for breakfast, but will often forget to eat during the day being a slim build weight loss is noticeable. In the evening I may have some humous and oatcakes or a salad sometimes pizza but I never really feel hungry. I will drink flavoured soya milk during the day to keep my calorie intake up0

Had a quick skip through the posts and couldn't see anything mentioned so,
Do you consume alcohol daily?
At work we once had a discussion about weight loss and it turned out that the women who had trouble with weight were the women who drank alcohol daily.
I too agree with what someone else mentioned earlier - I think a lot of people have the clear the plate mentality. I was brought up like this but as soon as I got old enough to kick the habit, I did!
Don't drink fizzy pop but I do drink cordial. I'm a grazer. I don't worry if I can't park next to the supermarket entrance and stuff like that.
I know someone (a man) told me years ago that he had been advised if he wanted to speed up his metabolism then he should be a snacker rather than a 3 meal a day man. Trouble is I think some people then snack and do the 3 meal thing!
Stop eating when you are full and if that means half way through a biscuit then so be it.0 -

Hi,
Thanks for this. I don't drink alcohol at all. I also tried the 'stopping when full' thing but fell down with the not knowing when I was full😳!
I also think you're right about the snacking AND meals.0 -
Ben84 has put it very well.
For years I reckoned I'd never been on a diet - but then I realised that the food I choose to eat (lots of veg, lots of salad, very few sweets or cakes) was what most diets recommended. So in fact I'd been 'on a diet' my whole life!!
Maybe it's just luck if you happen to like the right foods - personally if you told me I could never have another slice of cake it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
But I do agree that as soon as you're told you must (or mustn't) eat certain foods, you want to do the opposite. I was quite seriously poorly while pregnant, many years ago, and lost weight at a time when I should have been gaining it. Once I was better I was told I should try to eat more - I've never felt less like eating!!!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
I only ever eat when hungry and finish a meal when I'm full, any leftovers are put in the fridge for the next day, very MSE saves a lot of money and time cooking.
I have always ate that way until I lived with someone who ate to the clock including snacks ie lunch at 1pm, snack time at 3pm, dinner at 6om with pudding, snack again at 8pm and supper just before bed!
For the first time in my life I put weight on, as soon as we split up the weight fell off.
Also I don't have sugar in hot drinks so have a lot of tea and coffee through the day, don't eat chocolate or sweets.0 -

As others, I piled on the pounds when in a relationship and have steadily dropped weight since eating 'normally for me' again.
Something that helped with me was not eating for a day.
A 24 hour fast never killed anyone, and it reminds you what it feels like when you're hungry. I don't think I'll stick to 5/2 long term, but it helps me every now and then.
It also helps reset my clock - As someone else mentioned - If I eat at the same time every day, I get 'hungry' at the same time. Often for me this is more habit than actual hunger.
I also eat fairly low cal (not obsessively, just works out that way), then allow myself one thing a day as a snack if i fancy it. I don't always, But sometimes it's a couple (okay...3) jaffa cakes, sometimes its a frozen mini pizza for dinner, on occasion its' making pancakes.
Today it was dinner being a coronation chicken baguette - HM coronation sauce isn't that much of a cheat, but the white bread baguette
5 stone lost, 5 stone to go :jThat sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Anyway, a lot of people who 'don't do diets' gave me some good advice before but I was wondering what kinds of things do you eat on a daily basis? And how much of them (e.g. Portion size).
Thanks in advance.
Anon!
I don't weigh myself often but know I hover at the lower end of between 9st and 9st 7. I'm 5ft 7ins.
I don't stick to any particular diet but do always eat a big breakfast. I'll have porridge and sometimes toast as well. If I'm travelling for work I find it difficult to say no to the full works - fruit, fry up, pastries. That pretty much sets me up for the day. I'll have soup for lunch. I'm never that hungry at dinner time but would probably have a small portion of whatever the DH is having. I don't exercise properly but do have a big dog who needs at least an hour's walk a day (now old dog so not a strenuous hour!) and I swim/splash about with my niece once a week.lexbubbles wrote: »I was just about to suggest this. Tracking is the best way to go about things. Most people will underestimate the amount they eat and overestimate the amount they burn exercising. Be as honest as you can be.

Great advice! It's just like the DFWs and their spending diary. Keep a note of what goes in and what goes out and you're probably shocked. I didn't count the coffees, magazines, treats for colleagues and children so was really confused when I'd no money left at the end of the month. Just being aware leads to a huge change in behaviour.
(Much better at managing my weight than managing my money!)0
