They've been going off here for the last hour or so. Oz is staring at the ceiling with a fixed gaze. He's going to want to go out soon. I can sense it:o

Fireworks just started going off here, and Harley is fast asleep in the conservatory, hasnt woke him up, and he doesnt look like he is bothered, hope it lasts, and he not like poor poppy.

I do feel for pets and their owners...there was a time when it was just tonight and new years eve that we had fireworks.....now we have them from mid October to xmas!

A friend of mines dog was spooked Sunday night and ran off...they are still looking for him:(

is it really worth the "enjoyment" of a few bangs and some pretty patterns lighting up the sky!?

Hopefully after tonight fireworks will be gone til next year.

Poppy wasn't this bad last year she ignored them if she was in the house and if she couldn't hear any would go out.

Must have been when that rocket last year just missed hitting her she's like an elephant never forgets ;)

My old collie used to be fine with fireworks till a neighbour let off fireworks that hit our bedroom windows. From then on she was terrified for the rest of her life.

My heart goes out to you & Poppy tweets. I went through years of it and it is hell as it goes on for weeks and weeks and at such random times.
If only people would just go to organised displays then it would be manageable and over in a few hours. :(
I guess if people have no pets or pets who aren't afraid then they don;t stop to consider their neighbours dog who is hiding behind the sofa terrified.

One of my neighbours said her dog broke their TV as she was so frightened of fireworks she tried to squeeze behind it.:(

If you dont have a thundershirt you could try putting an old tshirt on her and just trim it down or knot it above her back. It will still have the same affect of making her feel covered & protected.

Sedatives are not a good idea as they knock the dog out, but their hearing is so good they can feel even more frightened as they can hear the fireworks but can't move so well to try to escape them. :(

Better to try adaptil, zylkene, rescue remedy, lavender oil in an essential oil burner, loud music/tv, heating on, making a safe den, even playing special interactive toys to distract but these need to be introduced as a "special" activity before the fireworks even start as the dog will be too frightened to touch them once the fireworks have started if they havent got previous positive associations with them.

I have no TV at the moment so I am sitting with music blaring out of my laptop to drown them out. I'm gonna have a headache by the end of the night!!

Good luck to anyone with scared animals. x
