I don't really drink, so I know nothing
I thought I might buy and elderly male family member alcohol for Christmas. I overheard him say he enjoyed Single Malt whiskey. He also mentioned gin.
Which brand? Anyone know of any offers? Ideally I want to spend £15 or less, £20 at a push.

this is pretty good for £20
It is a speyside ..a mellow whisky that I reckon just about everyone would be able to drink

You won't get many single malts for £15, even £20 is cheap, £25+ is normal.
I'd take up the Aberlour offer.0 -

OP asked for a whiskey recommendation - you have recommended a whisky

Like so many today, the OP probably doesn't know there's a difference.
Which, none the less, raises a problem. Taste in spirits is very subjective, especially once people develop preferences, so it's probably best to find a sneaky way of discovering what the elderly one likes before buying him something he dislikes, by mistake!0 -
I never knew there was a difference! He likes a drink, I know that much. I will try to figure out a little more - maybe a cupboard rummage next time I am there.0

The difference is Ireland and Scotland, whisky is from 1 country and the 1 with e is from the other0

I have looked for single malt Whiskey ..and other than one from Boston I can't find any.Other than really expensive Bushmills
So I think to keep commenting on what is highly likely to a be a crossed spelling by the OP is probably just going to confuse the decision.
Single malts are really specific to Scotland .It is worth asking if he likes any region ..even asking if he likes a brand will help to find the region he has a taste for.0 -

If you can get it for £15 a bottle tell me where and I'll have a case. I was at the distillery in the summer and it was about £40.0
