Residual heat of the oven - call for ideas!

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I posted!

Last night I made a batch of 'forgotten cookies' which are basically little meringue blobs with nuts / chocolate etc in. You put them in the oven just as you turn it off and forget about them until the following morning.

This got me thinking... What else can you cook in the residual heat of the oven?

Anyone got any good tips or recipes? Nothing too complicated, preferably something you can chuck in right at the end and forget about like the 'cookies' I made.

I know you guys will come up trumps :T

I suppose you could try drying out orange and lemon slices for pot pourri or Christmas decorations. Or maybe try oven-dried as opposed to sun-dried tomatoes.

  • I've done yoghurt in mine before.
I also often turn the oven off up to 20 minutes before the end of cooking time for things that aren't too sensitive and find that they cook just as well. Often start cooking from cold as well.

  • A (metal) bowl of cold water - which, by the time you've finished your meal, will have warmed up nicely for the washing-up.

Meringue will work, also sliced tomatos with a sprinkling if salt, sugar, olive oil and thyme left overnight, awesome flavours and will sit for a few months In some olive oil, great for anything like salads, snacks. Tomato sauces etc. fruit you want dehydrating maybe ?
