Finding a independent financial mortgage advisor

I am about to buy my first flat. I currently live near Southampton but am looking to buy a place in Bournemouth where I am hoping to start a new job
I need to find out what size mortgage / deposit is required. So I realise I need to contact an independent financial mortgage advisor. Do I select one local to me where I live now, or find one in Bournemouth?
Apart from asking friends for recommendations – suggestions please on how to find the best mortgage advisor.
Thanks,

It will be easier to meet the broker where you're currently living and perhaps get things in place for Bournemouth when the time comes?
It won't make much difference which area the broker is from except of course when it comes to meeting them.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
In general, an independent mortgage broker is one that is fee based and will consider non-commission paying deals and rebate commission from commission paying deals. Although most independents will also work to whole of market (commission only basis) if you ask them.Apart from asking friends for recommendations – suggestions please on how to find the best mortgage advisor.
Generally, the standard is good as long as you avoid estate agent advisers (small local independent EAs excluded). https://www.unbiased.co.uk is a good database and it will sort by distance to your location.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Of course you do not have to 'meet' a broker for them to give you the right advice and good service. Therefore geography is not an issue.I am a Mortgage Broker
