Apparently the bailiffs are coming tomorrow

Well, according to an answering machine message we received today. Unfortunately, in my effort to listen to the message again, being a technophobe, I managed to erase the message.
But it definitely said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation - yes, the FBI themselves - are coming to execute a bailiff's warrant at 11am tomorrow.
Sadly though, because I erased the message, I didn't catch the name of the firm of solicitors who can put a stop to this if I call them, nor the man's name at the first.
So I guess I will just have to wait and see what the bailiff's warrant is about and how much they want from me, till tomorrow.
I don't know how I am going to sleep tonight with the anticipation :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
p.s. - the FBI *don't* execute bailiff's warrants, do they? And they don't come over here to do it, do they
:o

Probably some sad, pathetic DCA called Freddies Bureau & Investigations trying to scare you into paying some none descript debt.0

Bailiffs can't visit without having sent you a writen Notice of Enforcment, see http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/debt_e/debt_action_your_creditor_can_take_e/bailiffs_e/bailiff_has_issued_you_with_a_notice_e/dealing_with_a_notice_from_a_bailiff_-_where_to_start_e.htm
Unless you know you have a CCJ or are behind with your council tax or haven't paid parking fines, it sounds to me to be more like some debt collector trying to scare you.0 -
There was an article in the Times Money section today about this. They call you, say that the FBI is about to execute a warrant against you, and you need to phone a (premium rate) phone number to stop them taking action.
Lucky you erased the message so that you can't be tempted :-)0 -
It's a warrant for your arrest! Don't worry - it is a scam.

Deleting it is definitely the best thing to do with it.0 -
Well, I waited for them, and they still haven't arrived.
Even allowing for world time differences, and possible jet lag, I think I can take it they're not coming.
I did fall behind with the council tax recently, which is why there was a teensy tiny trickle of doubt. But I have caught up with the payments, and am maintaining them, so realistically there's no chance of a bailiff's warrant.
and I am *pretty* sure that the local authority wouldn't be employing the FBI to collect council tax

They way services are being contracted out it wouldn't surprise me.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
