Are Nationwide your existing bank? You might have to go to the Co-op then, as if they are already one of your creditors, they may not downgrade your account for you

Yep, as backontheup says, if they are one of your creditors you will need to go somewhere else for your banking needs - co-op are very good imho. Good luck! :)

Nationwide won't allow BRs to open a basic account with them if you already either owe them money or have got a current account elsewhere.

Personally, I think you're better off going elsewhere - although I can't prove it, I always have this feeling that a creditor who's lost money through you going BR will keep an eye on any other accounts you've got with them to see what money is moving in & out of the account, & see if there's any way they can get back what was owed to them. If Nationwide won't let you open a new account with them, they may have done you a favour. :)
