  • I think I need to figure something out to properly tidy away things like DVDs, CDs and games ........... there are so many of them! They really add to the cluttered feel but I am not sure what to do with them all. Some are in those standing racks but there are others in piles all over the place.

We only have overhead lighting so might need to think about that too!

If you have an Ikea nearby it's worth having a wander around for ideas. Their stuff is quite good value anyway but it's amazing the tips you can pick up from the 'showhomes they have in the store. Storage s a big thing with Ikea.

Yes, they seem to have a lot of ideas on making most of smaller spaces whilst still looking quite stylish and uncluttered.:)

I'd also see if you can persuade your BF to part with any games/DVDs he's unlikely to watch/play again. They could be sold and any funds redirected towards a storage system!

Also, search "DVD storage" on Pinterest - bound to be some thrifty ideas.

We have the Expedit storage system with the more expensive bamboo boxes from Ikea. Hide a multitude of sins! We have Cds/dvds/jigsaws/games/chargers/tablets, laptops and leads in ours! I love candles, tea lights, photo frames and lamps. My house is very tidy and cosy (read no space!) but I love it. Big thick curtains, throws and cushions are a must.

  • Still on a tidy up mission here! It is feeling a bit more like I live here now. I used to stay here every weekend and, with my boyfriend working shifts, sometimes he would be at work both days or nights so I see him more now. Still miss him! Especially on the night shifts for some reason. I am in alone now so have been having a bit of a tidy up. I think it will take a bit of time to organise my cleaning / house work routines around both our jobs.

Need list includes another DVD rack and a book case. And I need to find some easy slow cooker recipes to play with! He is at work all day Saturday and I would love to have a full meal ready for when he gets in. Maybe stew?! An all in one pot recipe anyway. x

I haven't tried it myself yet but I'm told the Schwartz slow cooker mix for chicken curry is really good. I tend to use my SC for batch cooking. That's something you could do when your OH is working. My freezer has plenty of Bolognese, chilli, mince cooked ready for cottage pie. So all HM ready meals for days when I'm short of time.

I second the Schwartz slow cooker chicken curry. Always goes down well with the family. The beef and ale one is also very good.
I think I'm a bit of a minamilist but when we visited a friends house recently their house was really cluttered with lots of books, throws, ornaments, candles and other bits but it really worked, it was really homely and comfortable. Why can't I make up my mind about what I like best?

If you like the 'uncluttered' look then storage is essential! those box pouffes are great and quite inexpensive. B&M, Home Bargains, Poundstretchers all have them. Wicker baskets, even wooden orange crates (Greengrocers may be glad to give them to you if you ask nicely. sand and varnish them and they transform into smart boxes, and they STACK!)

Do you still get wooden orange boxes ? Thought everything came in cardboard these days.
I had an orange box as a bedside cabinet a looooong time ago. Piece of lino on the top and a frilly 'skirt' around it on expanding wire.
