Down in the dumps.

Options
Hey everyone,

I`m have now been out of work for 3 weeks and its crushing me.
Long story short I need to find work in the next 2 weeks or we are going to e in serious trouble.
I am on income support which ive been on since the day after i was made redundant.

I have been looking daily at the job centre wesite, my local council website, local nhs website and local daily paper website. and i havent found very much. I`m signed on with all the local agencys near me and have handed cvs to all the local buissness i can think of. and still nothing.

Not one interveiw, not one reply to a cv or application form.

I`m starting to think no one wants me.

Does anyone else knows of anything else i can try???

kind regards

fishcake

What kind of jobs are you looking for?

If you havent heard anything from anyone then I would suggest either there are no jobs around or your cv may need changing slightly - do you have anyone who could look at your cv and give you an honest opinion.

Chin up something will come along soon x

  • At the momeny i am looking for anywork in any area, the only thing a cant do is preparing food due to a medical probem i have. my cv was written with the job centres help so i think its okay.
my biggest issue is the amount of students round here who have come home for summer, they seemed to have taken everything. a lot of people have said come back the end of august but i just cant survive that long.

thank you for your kind words

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

i live near southampton in hampshire. we have quite good public transport here so i have quite a wide area i can work in. I have been thinking of putting some adverts in shop windows offering my services as a typist and cleaner/ironing etc. what do you think?

Its definitely worth a try (although school holidays might limit the response) but go for it.

Try not to get too despondent. this is not you - it's the time of year. Three weeks isn't a long time in job hunting terms anyway, but in the summer it's even less. few companies recruit during the holidays because they can't get people together for interviewing, decision making, induction, training.

taking in ironing is a good idea if you're looking to keep busy - how many people say the worst bit about going on holiday is the laundry from unpacking?! I would have thought your best bet just now would be agency work on short term contracts - notoriously difficult to find temps this time of year. have you told the agencies you would accept short term? That gets you working, builds your skills, and can often lead to something more permanent.

Jobhunting is a long hard and slow process.. Keep going at it. Hope you find something soon

PS just thought of something else. It's good that you are open about taking any job but I wondered if your CV and application is maybe a bit too open and unfocussed? When I advertise a job, I'm looking for candidates that want that job, and tend not to look too closely at applications that are too general. It occurred to me because when I get Jobcentre CVs they do tend to be very general and I hate to say it - obviously off a standard template. You might want to look at tailoring your cv for different jobs eg clerical, reception, assembly work, customer service or whatever. Good luck!

I agree with the other posts. Three weeks is not long, though if you are without money it will seem it.

Carry on believing in yourself and i wish you lots of luck. I'm sure something will come along. In the meantime, your idea of cleaning/ironing sounds excellent.

I have a friend who had a really "good" job which she hated. She gave up the job and now cleans/irons. She is always in demand, always appreciated by those she works for for what she does and she really loves it.

    All the best
