Us northerners must be more honest than your southerners :-P
I have not really noticed an increase but in saying that I do tell people at the outset to just be completely honest with me and I will decide how to best package it up as I work for them not the bank.

I think you can also tell by the way people look/say things if they are not being completely honest - I always insist on completing the factfind with them preferably face to face but over the phone if not.

  • Solicitors are now saying they would not "sign off" (can't remember exact wording) completion unless we take out the policy

The money we have got from a family member is going to be repaid next year when I get a savings scheme from work mature. We initially said it was a gift, I wish we just said it was a loan.

    Any advice?

    Advice yes.

    1. Don't state that 'loans' are 'gifts'
    2. If you do decide it is a gift - take out the policy which seem to be priced at a couple of hundred pounds and conclude the matter.

Anyone would think you have a problem with your solicitor making a living?

    Thanks for your "advice"

    1.It was originally a gift
2.the lender has said it's not a requirement hence my asking if anyone had heard of it before.

I don't have a problem with the solicitor making a living all. It would have been nice for them to include it on their list of costs at the beginning.

    Thanks for your helpful response!

It is generally solicitors that seem to be 'insisting' on this cover. Which by co-incidence they also arrange.
