Pending Bank Charges

Hi All...
Recently my phone bill went out of my bank and it pushed my over my overdraft limit by just under £5, for 2 days until I got paid. I checked today and not only have they charged me £25 for payment of the bill but I have another £25 pending for exceeding my overdraft!
This seems harsh and I reckon I will call them and see if I can get them to rescind it.. should I be able to do this and what do you reckon my plan of attack should be?

You can only try ringing them and ask but they might not budge seeing as though everyone is claiming back their bank charges at the moment. You might be best of checking on the reclaiming bank charges thread under the specific bank and see if anyone has posted any advice on how to deal with the particular bank, theres also contact numbers and names on there incase you need to go down the letter writing route to persue your claim.LBM - April 2007Claimed back my bank charges from Natwest - £1196Halifax Credit Card Claiming £467.35 Rec £467.35!/Capital One Card Claiming - £523.92/Barclaycard Claiming - £403.58 Rec £403.58/MBNA Claiming - £584.37 Rec£584.37Proud to be dealing with my debtsUpdate: 2009 - Currently claiming £1900 from Natwest0

I had a similar thing with First Direct. I wrote to them via their online messaging service, basically explained the situation and that I would be grateful if they could re-consider as a gesture of good will. They wrote back the same day saying they agreed the charge 'was a little over-zealous' and dropped it.
You can't lose by trying, but I wouldn't go in all guns firing. Try the gentle approach, phrasing it as a reconsideration as a gesture of good will works well. I would also use a messaging service rather than phone, as you can be polite and you won't get stressed into maybe getting angry which may cause them to stick with the charge. I know these things are upsetting and unfair, but it's a first error, if you admit it but also ask them to look at the issue from both sides, it'll usually work.

phone them and ask nicely if they would remove it.. say its the first time (presumably?) and as its only a little etc.0

Cheers for that guys.. I didn't think of a secure message. Definitely the best way as I tend to be not too good with confrontations!! Have just sent one asking them if they would re-assess the charges or at least reduce them to something more reasonable.
