Nationwide mortgages - process - good lender?

Options
If anyone has any first hand experience of them would be keen to know more. How long after the agreement in principle was it until you moved to the next stage?

Is it just three months of pay slips and statements etc or more?

And what about credit checks, how many times do they check?

  • I think mine was just one payslip and latest p60

Ours took about 2 weeks for the full offer.
    Start Feb 2013 £148,900
Initial MFD Feb 2043 --- Target Feb 2035
    Current balance [STRIKE]Jan 2014 £146,652[/STRIKE], Nov 2014 £143,509

:beer:Current MFD Oct 2042 (5 Months Early)
    2013 OP: £255 / 2014 OP: £815
  • We are using nationwide, been super quick. The valuation was done on the Friday & mortgage offered on the Monday

25/9/14. Accepted an offer on our house
27/9/14. Enquired about new build, given broker details
27/9/14 DIP approved with Nationwide via broker
    28/9/14 Reserved new build
    07/10/14. Broker collected all docs
08/10/14. Docs uploaded to nationwide, help to buy applied for
13/10/14. Received help to buy approval in the post
    16/10/14. Full application keyed
16/10/14. Valuation fee has been debited from our account & booked
    17/10/14 Valuation carried out
    20/10/14 Mortgage offer issued
23/10/14 Full mortgage offer arrived in post

2 working days from full application to mortgage offer, can't praise Nationwide enough!
I think it helped speed things along as the mortgage advisor uploaded our documents while we were awaiting the htb approval, so they were all approved before they keyed the full application
  • We got our mortgage end of last year. Can't remember the days in between each step. We went through a broker and it was all very prompt (the valuation, DIP and the full application). NW wanted our P60s and about 3 months payslips. DH was into his second job only 5 months when we applied (NW said it had to be 6 months minimum), but they accepted it anyway. Overall I think they were very efficient.

Not sure about the number of credit checks. Our broker said, that they may do a second credit check just before they actually transferred the money to the solicitors. Nothing changed for us during the whole process, so I didn't confirm if this was true.
    SPC 08 - #452 - £415
    SPC 09 - #452 - £298

This is a how long is a piece of string question.

Nationwide can be very swift, Nationwide can be slow.

It depends on the workload, who picks it up, and if any mistakes are made or information lost.

All borrowers should give any lender 3 to 4 working days on any stage at any time.

  • It's been far from straightforward for me - 2 weeks spent faffing over names and addresses. About 4 searches of my credit file on Experian so far. Valuation now booked. Will wait and see what happens next. This is for a remortgage.
  • As long as it's a straight forward application there shouldn't be too many issued. Our was 8 days from application to offer hitting our doormat.

Our broker has just changed our interest rate before completion. Done in seconds and new offer is in the post.

    Why the questions?
  • We've just completed a remortgage with Nationwide, took about five weeks but probably would have been quicker if Id returned some docs earlier but I was dealing with a newborn and sleep deprivation. Compared to Skipton who took about four months, Nationwide were a dream..

You mean you didn't have clear proof of your identity or address?

There you go - this poster 8 days to offer. The poster previous to this one was 2 weeks just to sort the identification issues.

Each case is potentially fast, slow, or in between.
