Hi,
decided to get more quotes, really wanted 4kw system fitted:;-
one installer said it would be a tight fit but could do it with canadian solar panels and sma inverter whilst another said there needs to be approx 300mm spacing between panels and ridge tiles and consequently only 3.5 kw system can be fitted.
This is a bungalow and the latter quote would be 1.25kw on a southeast roof and 2.25kw on a south west roof, so one panel less per roof than first quote. Second quote includes solarworld/lg panels, sma inverter, geo solo monitor and monitoring of system by installer.Prices are roughly the same.Wondering whether a 1.25/2.25kw split array is going to produce worthwhile return?
Am unsure which to go with, also whether the first quote would mean rain water would miss the guttering or anything like that.
Any thoughts appreciated

    If it helps, ask your installer if there are any higher Wp panels he could use. I'm not (at this stage) suggesting high efficiency panels that cost more, but rather 'regular'ish panels producing 270Wp or so.

    That would help a bit.

    Have a look at this shop, and just take a nose through some of the manufacturers. You'll see Canadians and YingLi panels that are larger than 250Wp.

    But be careful and check specs on the larger numbers, for instance the 310Wp Canadians are 2m long rather than the more normal 1.6m.

    These don't seem too bad, that would at least be a 3.85kWp system
    2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)

    By the figures your posting, 3.5kw and then 1.25kw/2.25kw split Im assuming they are quoting standard sized 250W panels, so your looking at 14 panels...Really?? They are telling you 3.5 is the biggest size achievable??

    We would simply use 285W panels. 14 x 285W = 3.99kw

    I fail to see the problem and why your quoting companies are not suggesting a bigger panel?

    (This is obviously making the logical assumption based on the figures they are quoting for 250W)
