Hello,


I am currently employed and have been for the last 2 and a half years and I am looking to leave this role.


My issue is, I have recently been invited to interview for a company that I worked for before my current job, I was dismissed nearly 3 years ago due to depression/anxiety etc which led to absences and finally my dismissal.


I was always told that I was great at the job I did with them but it was only my absences letting me down.


Now I have been invited back to interview and there are a few jobs going with the company and they do remember me and still invited me to interview.


Would you say all the signs are good for the company to actually offer me the job despite what happened 3 years ago?

    It may be.

    What was the cause of your illness?

    If it was work related stress, don't bother.

    If the cause was something else entirely and it's no longer a problem, then off you go.

    They can only say no....

    ETA : If the job requires lengthy or expensive training, they may want to interview people who they know have done the job before.

    It could be convenience on their part.

    It was something that is no longer an issue any more and I don't think it involves expensive or lengthy training as I picked up the role within the first week.


    Am I right in thinking they may want to check my circumstances to see if they have changed before offering me the role again?
  • I'm not sure how it matters. Just prepare yourself to answer questions on how your circumstances have changed if they ask.

    Just an update.


    I got the job!!


    I am going to be starting on Monday although my current boss is very unhappy that I am leaving :(

    Well done.

    That's very short notice given that you have been in your present job for more than two years and they would be entitled to one week's notice even if it were only statutory minimum. Were you able to negotiate taking unused annual leave during the end of your notice period?

    Well done :) Mainly that you had the confidence to go ahead and applied for the job in the first place. I am so tired of hearing the 'I can't', 'it won't work', 'it will be a waste of time', 'it's x, y, z's fault', it's refreshing to hear of someone who went through a tough time, but didn't fall into the victim syndrome and showed that you can get there against all odds.

    You're a real inspiration to this forum :)
  • Just reading this by chance and I couldn't help but notice (in case I misinterpreted), that you started your new job whilst you were still employed in your old job by taking annual leave to cover your notice. Just be careful as during this period you are employed by two companies, you may have to speak to the tax office about this.

    I don't see a problem.

    HMRC don't care how many companies you work for at the same time.

    As long as the first employer provides a P45 which is passed to the new one by the OP, tax will be sorted within the year.
