How to approach boss about applying for new job?

It sounds like a complete nonsense. 200 apply for the job and 400 references have to be confirmed before shortlisting can be done? Ain't gonna happen..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Its always been common practice in teaching but that comes with the offset that the jobs are usually awarded on the day of the interviews rather than waiting for weeks afterwards to be confirmed. That's fine in a profession where you have effectively closed conditions for entry (you are either a qualified teacher or not), but if say you wanted to apply for a job in finance, having such conditions would deter all but existing public sector employees as any from the private sector wouldn't want the risk. That should be looked at as its a back door way of blocking entry from outside the public sector and possibly inhibits fresh thinking coming into the organisation. Cynics might suggest its deliberate to stop cosy practices being challenged by newcomers!Adventure before Dementia!0

If you have decided to tell your boss, schedule a private, in-person meeting. Keep the meeting positive and emphasize the positive reasons why you're seeking new employment.0
