Going blonde with a home hair colour

Well I coloured it myself last night (well actually hubby did it). We used a Nice and Easy hair colour and a brush and bowl rather than the applicator bottle.
If I am going to be really critical the roots are a very slightly different shade from the rest. However, for a £5 hair colour it looks really good and I love the conditioner that comes with the pack.
We did a strand test first and it took a long time for the roots to colour the same shade as the rest. In hindsight we should have probably left the roots a bit longer. Of course this would have also been easier if I didnt already have a colour on my hair.
I will see how this looks over time as it grows out. I may decide that a cheaper hairdresser or trainee is the way to go but I am glad that I gave it a go and it just shows that you dont have to spend a fortune on a hairdresser.0 -
Well done
I've just read through this thread and have just gone from dark brown to a dark/medium blonde over the past few months with home colours, I've been using nice n easy for years but they seem to of changed the formula and I started to get the dreaded red tones coming through and very quick fading, if this happens to you I would highly recommend Superdrug own brand permanent colours, they last really well and seem to be true to the examples on the box, I'm very very happy with mine, also you can buy the purple shampoo you mentioned in superdrug, boots etc for about £4-5, good luck

I also use Superdrug hair dyes for my blonde hair, it retains the seperate colours it has naturally which is great as you don't get that flat colour, they are fairly cheap and usually on offer.
The best point for me is they have the bunny friendly sign."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

I have shoulder length, naturally mousy brown hair. For the past year or so I have been paying £70 every 7 weeks to get it cut and coloured. Its currently very blonde.
I keep looking at the home hair colours in the shops and thinking I could save myself a fortune but I am nervous about doing it.
So, do you colour your own hair blonde? Any tips? Does it really look as good as if you went to the hairdressers?
I am debating whether to try a cheaper hairdresser or do it myself and it needs colouring now so I need to make a decision!
I just re did mine this week, nice n easy ash blonde, its horrible, really dull colour.
You really cant beat a proper salon. I usually get mine done for £40, cut , foils and full colour on shortish hair. They were closed when I need them !0
