Greasy hair

My nearly 12 year old has terribly greasy hair. It has always been on the oily side, but since she is at that age is has just got worse, I was like that when I was younger too, and the only way I found stopped my hair getting greasy so quick was to dye it, which obviously I don't want to do.

Can anyone recommend anything that actually can help? She literally washes her hair the night before and by lunch time the following day it is oily again. Obviously she doesn't want to not wash it for days as she at school and doesn't want people to comment on it. Have tried shampoos for oily hair but none seem to do much:(

My daughter turned 12 in Sept.

Her hair is very fine and has now become greasy.

I tried the usual brands of shampoo and nothing worked. Then someone recommended Australian organics fine, limp and oily hair.

Fantastic. What a difference. I know it is expensive but it really works.

I don't work for Holland and Barrett, just really happy with the product.

ETA: She also has dry shampoo which she will use if she hasn't had a chance to wash her hair. It also helps.

ETA2: I was also told that putting conditioner near the root of the hair will make it worse so she justs puts conditioner on the ends.

Thanks! I will look in Holland and Barret next time I am in town. Yeah I know never to put conditioner near the roots as just makes it worse. Will definitely try that shampoo and hopefully it will work! :T

Could she try washing her hair in the morning rather than the night before? That way it wouldn't be greasy until later in the day.
  • You could have been talking about me 15 years ago, greasy hair was the bain of my life until I discovered highlights dry it out!

I second the suggestion of dry shampoo it helps keep it looking fresher for a few more hours. Batiste is good and not too expensive (£3ish for a big can). They also do travel sizes which might be handy for your daughter to have in her school bag if she's worried about it getting greasy at school? Mine used to be particulary bad after PE :o

Have you tried the final wash with a dash of vinegar in and poured over the scalp? Not so much that the jug of water has a strong smell though!

I used to use vinegar that I steeped rosemary in when I was a student and hated washing my hair. Still do but dry shampoo is now on my radar.
