I want to set up a domestic cleaning and home help service.

Options
As per the title I'm wanting to help out with our finances, but I just do not know where to start and I know it's something I'm good at.
I'm a full time mum and housewife atm and have been for three years.
I want a job that fits around my family and doesn't affect my husbands carrier as it's starting to go well for him.
I want something for myself now and to be a role model for our boys.
I have two boys 7 and 2. Mil lives a few streets away and has offered to help me with the care of our children.
MIL has a potential client lines up for me and I wanted to know would additional services be any good to add on to my buisness such as running errands and bringing home ironing. Put washing on and drying? I want to stand out from the crowd but I don't know how much if charge for the extra services.
I'm thinking of £10 ph as that seems the going rate around here or should I go in £1-£2 cheaper if local? oven clean £10, £15ph fit deep cleans such as windows, skirting and cleaning doors. But I'd like to help customers who are busy do their day to day chores.

What's your views il appreciate any input.

You need insurance to cover you if you damage ./ break some thing.

What services are others offering in your area and at what price?

  • Thanks for the reply I'm going to try and locate a pen and compare insurance. And have a nosey at other websites and see if they offer any extras and hopefully list examples and prices if not I'm going to have to be sneaky and get a quote.

Deep clean - whole day of cleaning for 100 quid
Carpet cleaning - you can hire one from HSS till you can justify buying
House move cleans - for change of tenants in rented or moving day
Oven cleaning - needs to be more than £10 if you are doing a good job round here the companies charge around £75
Being in the house if they are having work done like decorating/plumbing - lots of people can't take time off work you could be there and do a bit of cleaning as well
Decluttering services for hoarders who need help
Discounts for more than 3 neighbours all using you on the same day

    Few random thoughts for you

I would be careful do don't charge too little as your margins will be very low and you do need business insurance as mentioned
    Good luck
  • Thanks for that £10 seems to be the going rate around here however I'm thinking of 10% off upto four cleans and further 10% off for referring a friend to start off with.
I've had interest from a friend on my personal Facebook. Just going to see how it does if it's 2 hrs a week to start off with it's better than nothing! X

  • Well all I can say just to give you a ff to today.
I'm doing well! I've got three clients atm all really happy with me and they are regulars now.
Insurance has been sorted and so has hmrc. So far I've made a good few extra pennies to help take a bit of pressure from the hubby.
But I'm proud of myself for taking the plunge
