Ive just been on the phone to one of their advisors.

He clarified that the only "4 month" requirement with money being paid in is for the basic flex-account.

For the other two accounts, they can be opened during the application if required, without needing to do a full switch.

Of course if you do want to switch current accounts, theres £80 cashback available via quidco until the end of the week.

Im erring towards starting a switch with quidco at the moment, and then applying for the mortgage next week.

P.s. you should also be able to use the refer a friend in conjunction with the quidco as they don't send a link that you have to click through (so get referred, then apply through quidco).
  • Digging up an oldish thread here but just wondering if anyone can answer this.

If I want to put in a joint mortgage application to Nationwide on a Flexclusive deal does our Nationwide current account (what we need to be eligible) have to be a joint account or can it just be in one of our names?

Tried to phone earlier but the mortgage line was shut and is till Monday now :(

It can be in just one of your names. I had a sole flex account and completed on a joint flexclusive application a few weeks ago.

I can highly recommend the Flexplus account for anyone looking to switch to Nationwide :) We have had our Flexplus account for over a year and have just applied for the Flexclusive 4 year fixed mortgage. The extra incentives have been a big help to us.
Nationwide also gave us a very competitive buildings & contents insurance quote; they currently have 20% discount when taking both building and contents insurance and you also receive a £50 Amazon voucher, might come in handy at Christmas what with all the money that's going into buying a house!! :-D
You also get extended warranty on household items with the Flexplus account :)

dont be fooled by the extended warranty, its basically giving you what the EU law says you are entitled too anyways people just fall into the trap of thinking its only a year and not fighting their ground but its good to have extra support I guess

plus one for the nationwide flex plus.. we opened a joint account 13 months ago to get phone insurance and breakdown cover for both of us for £10 joint fee. bargain.

we have just applied for a 4 year fixed term like the OP and all approved despite the fact the only money that ever went in there was £10 a month to cover the fee.

    Just to chime in again..

I opened a flex direct account (just as a separate account), and as soon as i got the account number/sort code through the post cracked on applying for the 3yr flexclusive.

Everything was done online and has all gone very quickly going from initial application, valuation to formal offer in just over a week!

Its now sat with the conveyancers on hold until my current mortgage fixed rate expires at the end of the year.

All in all :T To Nationwide!

There is a free valuation and free legal fees with the 4yr fixed, what is included in the legal fees, i presume the normal conveyancing cost, normally about £500? How much extra is a home buyers report over a standard valuation?

I recently completed a mortgage app with Nationwide and it cost £170 for the upgrade to home buyers report.

Just done an application for the tracker deal , free legals etc. Just to point out it was all a bit of shambles with NW losing paperwork and conflicting feedback.

Prepare for that and you will be okay. We've just had our offer accepted but it took over a month from DIP.
  • Applied for the FlexDirect last Sunday as a joint account with the gf. Was accepted straight away online and then didnt hear anything from that.

Thought i'd have at least got an email confirming we'd been accepted so I phoned up and they apparently are waiting for proof of ID from the GF to process the application, they said I could pop into branch with our IDs to see if we could speed up the process as I can't sign up for the mortgage until we get the sort code and account number so i'm going to try my luck with that this morning.
