The only two things I would say about this is

    1) just because you recruit someone doesn't mean they will always be junior to you.

    2) I wouldnt worry about loss of respect as nobody respects health and safety departments. They are seen as a necessary evil in modern employment to prevent you being sued. The reality is most people think they are a waste of time!
  • Why did your partner recruit an incompetent person?

Recruited for a Wellbeing position where, one presumes, competent for that role. According to OP, incompetence comes with the H&S side of things.

Wellbeing manager, what sort of place is this that can have one of those in full time role?

For someone that is so keen on the technicalities of H&S should be glad that they are out of the endless BS meetings with senior people and has someone else to do that part of the job.
  • Wellbeing is the trendy word for our times. It SHOULD mean mental health support, but can mean so many things (it is used by our local mental health trust to refer to the clinic where they give people their antipsychotic injections!)

    I suggest two things

    1. Marketing yourself locally to prepare for a self-employed role so you can leave when the time is right

    2. Reading up about wellbeing so you can challenge and been SEEN to challenge your colleague's work where applicable. Start here. http://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/tips-for-everyday-living/work/work-and-mental-health/
