buying a car with outstanding finance
Options
Hi,
sorry if this is in the wrong place. I am going to look at a car tomorrow in a garage in Leicester. I have given them a £250 card deposit and they sent me an email video presentation of the car. It is £10,000 and the garage have applied for finance for me for the car and I have been accepted from black horse. My brother did a free HPI online check thing for me and the car has came back as having outstanding finance. when I asked the salesman about this he just said that it is them who have finance on the car and when my finance company pays for the car, that finance will show as cleared. he said it is very common in the motor trade and not to worry! I am very worried though! I understand that money and credit make the world go round and that they will be borrowing money off banks in order to be able to trade but I am still worried. anyone else heard of this. should I go ahead and buy the car? It sounds like a kinda del boy sale or return thing!
thanks for any replies.

Cant help with the actual situation but a link to the free HPI check would help lots of people out I would think as I didn't think there were any free ones still around:beer:0

You want this in writing, but it is perfectly normal in the trade.
My car was leased through a company we own, and when it was sold it showed up on HPI as being a lease car, registered to a leasing company that myself and my mother are the sole directors, to me personally.
This marker was removed after the car had sold.💙💛 💔0 -
Yes, it's perfectly normal. Even if it wasn't, any comeback would be on a dealer not you as a buyer.
However, putting down a £250 deposit on a car you haven't even seen ?????????:shocked:"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Definitely get it in writing!Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

I thought that I was being a bit rash when I bought my new/sh car from a main dealer 40 miles from me. But buying in Leeds from an address in Scotland. No, I don't think so.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
I would be more concerned about handing over a deposit of £250 AND being accepted for the finance without even seeing or testing the car."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0

finance will be fine, 70% of cars at garages may have the markers on as they take time to removeDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Also, I'd question whether a free 'HPI' check would be accurate. If it were, no one would pay for a real history check from HPI, we'd all be having them for free.
All of the low cost, free, SMS based history checks I've had any experience of have been rubbish when compared with what you get from a proper HPI check.0 -
When you buy the car on finance, then they will do a HPI check and will only finance the car if it shows clear of finance at the time of pay out.0
