I wanna digital camera

Hi folks,

Looking to tap into your vast knowledge of the internet! My friend is in need of a new camera but has limited funds (dont we all!)

I'm looking for a basic camera, an easy to use, point and shoot. At least 5 mega pixels and 3x optical zoom and as cheap as possible.

Someone out there must know of a bargain!

Thanks everyone for helping!

Boots are selling a Kodak easyshare C533 digital camera with 5 mega pix for £40(amongst others), you might want to check out instore to see if they have any left.
They still do in a store near me.

Whatever camera your mate likes the look of I'd suggest checking it out on http://www.dpreview.com/ to see what sort of reviews it gets. A common problem with some cheaper-end cameras is that they can be slow in taking the photo so you can end up missing the action. Warehouseexpress.com can be quite good, and it's always worth checking out Jessops because they'll usually (at least they used to) pricematch with the major internet retailers. You don't give a ballpark figure that your mate is looking at but Jessops are currently advertising a 7.1mp nikon coolpix with vibration reduction for £100. I can't speak for that particular model but my coolpix 5200 is a fantastic little camera and gives my DSLR a run for it's money in picture quality.

  • You can also go for a cheap printer + camera from hp for 64.99
Not the cheapest, but as a combination this is not bad

They still had some kodak easyshare cameras left in the Boots Bristol cribbs branch today.

Also, online on sites (that sell cameras) you can get a 5mp camera which is pretty decent for about £70 if you shop around.

My top tips are.. ask yourself what you want it for?.. what will you be taking pictures of? Do you have any particular preferences in a camera.. ie.. (do you prefer one manufacturer above another, or do you particularly want a camera with a viewfinder etc) or above all is money the biggest issue? Don't get sucked in by the sales hype around megapixels.. you won't need more than 5 megapixels really if you're not going to enlarge your images to big sizes above 6 x 4". You'll still get good quality.

A good website for buying cameras online is www.ukdigital.co.uk I recently got mine there and it was £139 (plus £8 for delivery, total £147) and they were asking £200 in the shops such as Jessops and Jacobs Photo and Video and service was good. Use price comparison sites before you buy, but make sure you do check out UK digital as well because they don't show up in the searches but they were still cheaper than any sites listed in the comparison results.

Ideally read reviews of what sort of camera you want, then narrow it down to 2 or 3 you like, then read more or find more about them.. then look at these in store.. handle them and have a go at the controls.. (you dont have to but it in there,, just say you'll think about it! :p) Then decide on the one you want and find the right price on the internet.

It can be a bit daunting I know, it took me nearly a month to decide which camera I wanted for my birthday!

    Good luck, and happy snapping!
    Bella :)
