what a pointlessly patronizing reply. What have YOU got to offer???????????

Nobody is going to give you a salary and a car for just driving around the country though.
What have you got to offer?

How on earth can anyone say the above is patronising in any way?

It is very to the point and realistic.

One has to have something to offer (skills/experience/certifications etc) for any kind of job - this type comes with extra perks as well as pyaing above NMW so clearly potential candidate must be able to offer SOMETHING - whatever it is they are looking for.

Some people need a reality check...
  • They'll look for the skills for the actual job above the "doesn't care if he's on the road 24/7". So they'd want a track record in whatever area the job entails and good customer service.

Honestly, if you go into an interview for one of these and say "well I'm between homes right now and feel up for a bit of a gallivant around the country in a company car with my hotels all paid for by you guys. It doesn't matter to me what I'm doing during the day time" then they won't want to know.....
  • I have a job that lets me live anywhere in the country, I travel to various clients occasionally but mostly I work at home. I get a car allowance but if I want to use trains/taxis then work will pay the expenses.

BUT.. i have a specific skill-set in IT. Without disclosing what your career/educational background is I don't think people can help you much.

Jobs that want you 'on the road' are commonly sales or consulting gigs. They'll often be technical in nature also. Big firms like Accenture like to throw their staff around the country a lot so you could try them.

This should be put in a sticky at the top of the thread, as people so often forget this side of the deal, but it is absolutely central to gaining and retaining employment.

OP, this point matters. People will only pay you money if you are offering something in return. Thinking what that is, what you bring to the table, is going to be central in both narrowing your search, and in then obtaining the job that you want.
