Hi All,
After being self-employed for two years I have recently started a new job working for Royal Mail as a postie, I say recently as I started just over a week ago. I have been fully trained and am now getting used to the job. I am on a 6 month, part-time contract with them. All was going swimmingly until I took a pregnancy test this afternoon, its positive!
I just wondered if anyone knows where I stand with regards to maternity leave, maternity pay etc?
Many thanks!

See https://www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/eligibility (you will need to know your due date, but it is likely to be too soon to get SMP) and https://www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance/eligibility
How likely is it that they would extend your contract (were you not pregnant)? Would it end before you would be likely to go on maternitly leave anyway? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
