Estate agent won't allow completion date!

Hi all
Buying a 3-bed house in the Home Counties, about to exchange (we're good to exchange as of today): our sols has spoken to the vendor's sols about completing 6 weeks after, and the vendor's sols seems to think it will be ok.
Appreciate this is a longish window for completion but hardly unheard of, and we need it to help with finances (house needs a complete overhaul, and won't be able to start work till January earliest).
Yet then I get a call from the estate agent saying 'that completion date is unacceptable, have you made a mistake? Vendor won't allow it' and he started suggesting earlier dates!
What's the EA's game do you think, and should I stick to my guns, if the vendor's sols thinks the completion date we want is ok?

Ultimately it's up to the vendor. If the vendor, the vendor's solicitors, and your solicitors are all happy with the date proposed, the estate agent can like it or lump it.0

"VENDOR won't allow it." Not the EA themselves. Not the sol. The vendor.
The delay before your builders can start work isn't their problem, it's yours.0 -
It has nothing to do with the EA.
If both solicitors are happy (having consulted their respective clients) then the date is fine.0 -
The vendor is what counts, if they refuse then they are entitled to do so. 6 weeks is pretty long, how long has the whole process taken, exchange and completion are only part of the journey, maybe the vendor thinks your being unreasonable.0

The estate agent may be trying to include the sale in an earlier commission period to boost their bonus or meet a target.
However, it is also entirely possible that they have, as stated, more up-to-date information from the vendor or the vendor's sol has made a mistake.
They certainly don't have any say in the matter themselves, anyway.0 -
If vendor agrees, his solicitor can Exchange contracts with your solicitor, with whatever Completion date both buyer and seller have told their solicitors to use.
Nothing to do with EA.
However if vendor told EA 'that completion date is unacceptable,' then presumably the vendor will say the same to their solicitor.......0
