Bl**dy bank taking my money

I'm still struggling with money, and am trying to sort it all out.

I have 3 accounts with N*tW*st - my own sole account, joint a/c with DH and old business account.

My own account has 93p in as I use another bank. Our joint account covers all the bills and mortgage. The business account has a loan that goes out monthly for our old business (admittedly, we are behind on payments ATM)

For the last 2 months, we get the correct amount of money into the joint account, and then Natwest take £300 out of our joint account to transfer it into the old business account to cover the loan....resulting in our mortgage not getting paid, and us ending up with all sorts of charges from Natwest as well as our mortgage company.

Can banks just transfer your money between accounts without your permission? I know we owe the loan money, but it seems like they're taking their money and sod everyone else.

Getting realy fed up now. I've ebayed loads in the last couple of weeks to clear the mortgage this month and Natwest have just transferred £309 to pay for their loan and charges on the business account.

I sent my bank charges letter off to them 3 weeks ago asking for statements, so hopefully that will claw back some money from the idiots.

Sorry but I'm mad!!

J

Yes they can take money you owe them from your accounts... often called offsetting... it will be in the T&Cs of your accounts.

You need to open a new account with a bank that you don't owe any money to and arrange for all your income to be paid into the new account.

The Halifax raided my bank account and took the remaining balance of my salary and also rent on a property I owned last August and left me with nothing for the entire month.

They are well within there rights to do so if you owe money on another account. As Clapton already has advised you should set up a new basic account elsewhere ASAP as they will continue to raid it at any given oppurtunity. Also if you set up a new account make sure you set up Standing Orders and NOT Direct Debits as otherwise they can change the Direct Debit amount and again empty your account although Im not sure if anyone has managed to get around this.

    Good luck

Hi. I have a CC and Loan with the Coop. I recently changed my personal and business banking away from them, and requested they close my personal account - they refused stating that the loan standing order MUST be paid from their current account.

I recently informed them I could no longer keep the my payments on both the card and loan, the woman simply said - OK we will close the loan account and put the outstanding balance onto your personal account as an un-authorised overdraft charged at .78% per month interest.

Not the solution I was looking for, so am continuing to struggle and pay the minimum contracted payment. No wonder they didnt want to close my current account!

Banks are only in it to make money and they will do whatever they can to get it. Even if it leaves you with no money for the rest of the month!

I've never been in this situation but I would be furious if my bank did this.

Good luck getting it sorted out
