    I don't think the OP is looking for excuses Agrinall to be honest, I think they are just momentarily panicking.

    Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls.
    These rules apply to calls from any type of line including mobile, BT, other fixed line or payphone.

    Which HMRC office did you tell when you stopped being s/e? You should have told the self assessment office, the NIC office and the tax credits office (if applicable) separately - they don't share information. I suspect that you told them re your SA tax return and just assumed that the information would be passed through to the NIC office - it isn't.

    If you genuinely stopped being s/e some years ago, then the NIC office should cancel the demand for class 2 NIC. All you have to do is tell them - that means phoning them in the first instance and they may tell you to write to them to confirm or they may update your record whilst you're on the phone.
