A life in purgatory...

After being outsourced (TUPE) I've no role but not redundant either (yet?). The demoralising endless "other duties as directed" is driving me crazy. I need a purpuse. How can I bring this to a head without making myself unemployed?

You have to keep looking around and apply for anything which you can do, because if you stay with this it will beat you with a very large stick, and you will lose the will to go on.
    Good luck!

Can you see things that need to be done, which would interest you? If so, ask if they would like you to do whatever this is. Don't wait to be asked, be proactive.

I agree with the above, if they can't find a role then create one for yourself.

/by doing this, they are hoping that you will eventually leave. Thus saving them the cost of a redundancy pay-out.
It is up to you if you if you play their game or tough it out.

I can't create a role outside of or influencing their operating model. It would not be funded or have any authority. I am finding that the "other duties as directed" is creeping in more an more now. I've written formally to HR to either make my role compulsory redundant or offer a suitable alternative according to my pay, location, status, etc. My alternative is to resign and file for constructive dismissal. The longer I leave my status to detiorate the more they can argue tacit acceptance which would jeapordise any claim.

    Being blunt (sorry).
If you make yourself useful they will want to keep you, and find a way to keep you.
If you are a PITA to them they will want you to go away, and they won't worry how.

Resigning and claiming constructive dismissal should be your last resort (the odds of winning are very low less than 3% I'm told). In the meantime log and document everything that happens to you just incase. I suspect that you are an inadvertent expensive acquisition as a result of the TUPE that they probably overlooked. Additionally you should consider getting a legal opinion. But don't forget if you decide in the end to go legal then it would be expected that you have exhausted your new employers grievance procedure. I do agree that continued use of "other duties as directed" is a weasel phrase and in an ideal world shouldn't be used as an excuse not to use your skills/knowledge appropriately as per your job description and duties with your former employer.

So, I made myself useful for 6 months on a high profile project. Got high praise from Customers. Project is done in 2 weeks and got served my redundancy today. Used and dumped.
  • You did ask them to make you redundant?

Move on and enjoy work elsewhere

You might look back and realise redundancy was the best thing that ever happened to you. I know many that feel that way a few months later.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
