Need to extend timeframe for Barclays (BTL) mortgage offer - is this possible?

I received a mortgage offer from Barclays on a BTL re-mortgage at the beginning of September. Unfortunately, in the week that the offer came in, a family member went into hospital and has recently passed away.
This has meant I haven't been able to make any progress on my plans to find/purchase my own place to live (which was the purpose of the re-mortgage). With the funeral arrangements/knock on effects, I'm unlikely to be able to complete before the mortgage offer expires at the end of Dec as a lot of my time will now be eaten up with dealing with estate/family issues and keeping on top of work.
Is it possible to ask Barclays for an extension in these circumstances? I will be contacting the broker who arranged the BTL, but I'm abroad for a couple of weeks so the time difference is making communication difficult. It would help to know the general take on this from the lenders.

Barclays are amongst the most receptive lenders on extending deadlines - contact your broker now (email waits for them to wake up - and you appear to have time to post on here).
They are likely to say they can't extend at this point and you (your broker) should process with (for example) 14 days before offer expires and have certain requirements - proof of new offer/acceptance/application.
