car parking permit

Options
Hi there,
Wonder if any one can help me, I have a job interview in the city of Bath tomorrow :T, I stand a very good chance of being offered the position. However I need a bit of info first just in case.
Bath is really expensive to park so I thought about a parking permit for one of the car parks (if I'm offered the position), does any one know if I can claim the cost of this back on my tax. I will be PAYE.
Thank you in advance

Travelling to and from work and associated costs are not tax deductible.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

No, travel to and from your normal place of work - including parking costs - is not tax deductible.

You will never be able to claim the cost of anything back on your tax. You will also not be able to claim the cost of this car parking against your income for tax purposes. After all why should you be, no one else can claim travel to andf from place of employment as an allowable item.
Doesn't Bath have Park 'n Ride, cycle lanes or public transport?

Zygurat789, I need to have my car near as I will need to visit vulnerable people, maybe at short notice through out the day.
I am actually able to make a claim on my mileage, cleaning of my uniform, shoe leather and wear and tear on my car......not that I ever have.
It was just a simple question that I was unsure of, there was no need to be rude.
It actually just re-enforces the decision that I made a few years ago to remove myself because I found SOME people on this forum so rude.

It is perfectly feasible for your employer to pay for your parking at (or near) work and for that to be tax free.

If your employer is not willing to pay for the parking it could be worth your while asking whether they are prepared to set up a salary sacrifice for you.

Ah yes, wasn't this the anomaly that the staff association screwed out of Inland Revenue because, round our way, they all get parking provided and they weren't going to be taxed on it.

    Why ever not?

I don't know about the tax issue, but of course you will claim mileage etc. when using your car for work and you do need to check how this is claimed and if it is paid correctly (your union will help).
When I worked in a centre-of-town office as a community nurse, needing to get to my car very quickly in order to do visits, we negotiated a cheap parking deal with the employers.
It is reasonable for someone in an office-based job to make choices about commutes, park-&-rides, cycles etc. If you need to be within 5 minutes' walk of your car in order to do your job, it is not reasonable that you pay exorbitant car park charges.
Ask at interview - you wont be the first.
