Grievance after leaving a place of work?

Hi all, over the past 2 years my payroll office have tried three times to get my rate of pay correct. Each time I have been told yes it is right this time and then I get a letter stating that they have got it wrong yet again. So now nearly one year after me querying their figures they have written to me again saying that they are sorry for the delay but their figures are right and that it's their mistake but I have to pay them back over £650. Now my question is this, several people have been involved in constantly getting my rate wrong including a person that signs the sheets every week with the rate of pay on. So I intend to take a grievance out on all the people concerned with this !!!! up BUT I retire in about 7 weeks time. Would the grievance stop when I leave or would it continue.

Does your employer have a grievance policy? If so read the document, it will setout timescales to be adhered to. If they fail to meet the timescales, this may give you an opportunity to raise to the next level.

What do you hope to achieve, write off the alleged overpayment?
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

Yes, because of the amount of times they have screwed up my rate of pay and the fact that in the three and a half years that I have been there I have never been given any terms of employment or contract!!

You need to think about what you want from this. If you want an apology then carry on with the grievance. However the likelyhood of them writing this off is basically zero so if that's your motive I wouldn't bother.

Ask them to justify the figure provided before making any payment however.
