  • Hi i have received the same letter and they say mine dates back to 2001 when i took my mortgage out .. this is a scam..

I think they are trying to charge us for when Santander took over the mortgage from ABBEY as my original mortgage was with Abbey and this is some sort of EXIT fee ... a way to get money for old rope..

    This is an absolute con.
  • I am going to go down the track of asking for the original documents with my signature on it. I will also go down the track of saying that it is now statue barred ... as this is 13 years ago.

    Fee of £225 in 2001 ??

Dont seem right to me i have never heard of this and i do not remember signing anything of the sort

Abbey and Alliance & Leicester had deeds release fees back in 2001, the question is the amount of the fee disclosed on the mortgage illustration and mortgage offer at the time.

The lender can only charge what it told you at the outset, or at the time you changed to a new product. It cannot increase the fee during the mortgage lifetime.

It is an exit fee. It is charged to close the account and have the charge over the property removed. It is payable if you repay the mortgage early by selling the property or voluntarily; if you remortgage to a new lender; or if you reach the end of the mortgage term.
