I think it ended some years ago to tell you the truth. We put in for it and were told that but the the Army Benevolent Fund stepped in and arranged payment for ours.
its still going .It done by NIHE .But it is ending soon .

We are urging home owners to apply now for assistance to replace their boiler through the Boiler Replacement Scheme.
Administered by the Housing Executive, DSD’s scheme will finish at the end of March 2015.
The DSD’s Boiler Replacement scheme has been very successful, helping over 15,800 homeowners replace inefficient boilers and providing those households with increased fuel efficiency.
The scheme, however, will end on 31 March 2015. We would urge anyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply by the end of December 2014 to ensure the work is completed by 31 March.

I have been meaning to get my oil burner serviced for about 6 months now (Having only learnt that I was meant to do it - never had central heating so didn't realise)

Anyway - never got round it and it broke down last week, and supposedly it was quite dangerous, and now I need a new pump and something else.

So I have learnt the hard way - get your boiler serviced annually.

Still don't know how much the repair has cost - but I'm sure its more than a service would be!!

on the subject of servicing boilers how much do you pay to get your boiler serviced .I paid £90 for two oil boilers (£45 each ) last month .

Power NI still have an offer running of £1000 or £500 depending on income etc.

I do my own each year, just clean the inside, check and clean the baffles and clean the photocell and electrodes. Only reason I can see for paying is to have the airflow adjusted if there's flue smoke or excessive oil usage. A flow meter in the oil supply would be useful, then the usage could be checked from cold to thermostat cut out and a record kept. Should give an indication of decreasing efficiency. Ok, it would be dependant on ambient temperature, but should show a trend. We're heating a 3 bed bungalow in a very exposed location but only using 900 to 1000 litres a year, I'm happy enough with that. Having thermostatic valves on the radiators and, importantly, the boiler controls close at hand in the house, helps a lot.

I have lived in this house for over 6 years and it was very hard to heat my oil didn't seem to last long either
just there in August the oil wouldn't come on and I rang the landlord who give him his dues had it repaired before 3.00
anyhow my point is the difference is unbelievable the house heats far faster and the current oil levels look good for this time off year .

Ah if your house is that new maybe you do have a condensing boiler. You'll know by looking at the flu. If it's only steam coming out of it then it's a condenser.

At 10 years you should be getting used to the expenses by now. lol Our house is 40 years old and we've had to refurbish the entire property since moving in because the decor was very dated. We did buy a new house at one point some years ago and it was a much simpler prospect but I've yet to buy one where I didn't have to do some work. As things stand here I've still quite a bit to do on the outside but inside is finished. £25,000 later.

Just set your mind at rest knowing your investment will build up eventually.

The house might be 10 years old but I only bought it less than 3 years ago!

How can someone prove what age your old boiler is. If you get a grant for boilers over 15 years, how can someone tell?? Maybe you moved into the house and the boiler was already there. I cant see anything on my boiler to signify how old it is
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

When I changed to gas I got a grant, but the boiler had to be more than 15 years old to qualify. When the plumber came out to look at it, he said it was around 25 as he recognised the model. There was no markings no see as they'd fallen off over the years .
I suppose in the same way a mechanic would know the exact year of a car.
In saying that he only had to scribble down the model and estimated age on the grant form. The people giving the grant just had to take his word for it.
