Advice on new t.v

Hi, we are planning to buy a new t.v this weekend and have narrowed it down to two models. Can you please advise which would be the better of the two. I have noticed that the panasonic one has a motion rate of 1200 and the sony as 800. I have read some reviews saying the 3d is not very good on the sony yet the picture quality blows the others out of the water. We will only be occasionally using the 3d, kids use the gaming often but primarily will be after the picture quality. I know your never going to get a t.v to be perfect in all areas but we are planning to spend 1000 this weekend on one so want to get as close as possible.
These are the two we are looking at
PANASONIC VIERA TX-55AS640B Smart 3D 55" LED TV
And
Sony Bravia KDL55W829BBU Smart 3D 55" LED TV
Also was a bit confused as on john lewis the panasonic one has passive 3d stated on it and on currys it's stated as active 3d. Can anyone confirm which one is true. We are looking at active due to the layout of our living room we were advised active was best.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe have a word with John Lewis and Currys and check with them, just in case you get the wrong answer here? Might also be worth putting off spending £1,000 for another few days if you still aren't sure what you want!0

Thank you, yes we have not bought one yet as still very much undecided, As long as we have it ready for Xmas. I am swaying more towards the panasonic but going to continue looking online at reviews and specs till I am 100% sure.'There are far better things ahead Than any we leave behind '0

I would recommend you take a look on avforums at the models that you are interested in to see what owners think about them before you decide. It's a lot of money to spend on a TV to get it wrong.

Thank you we have ordered the Sony 55 inch 3d one as it's now been reduced and comes with the free sound bar. I got fed up at looking online as everyone has different opinions but looking online it's very much a popular choice. We have already got a full surround system in the living room so we plan to sell the sony one that comes free and recoup some of the cost. Thank you everyone.'There are far better things ahead Than any we leave behind '0
