Trust deed just discharged employer forcing credit search
Hi
I am after some help... I have been with my company for two and a half years and I was not asked about my credit history initially and it's not a term of my employment. My company is trying to gain financial approval and has decided to credit check all staff as part of its screening process. I have a relatively senior role within the company and no access to cash, accounts or customer data. I have just made my last payment on my trust deed and am expecting this to become discharged within the month.
What could my employer do? They were a small set up when I joined and I have dissected my contract and no mention of this, can I refuse? Would the fact it's satisfied make it ok? Seems extremely unfair to apply these terms to exsisting staff.
Hoping someone can shed some light...

Why not speak to them?
Having worked in banking and insurance for too long then annual and random credit checks are just part of life. Whilst bad history is a non-starter for a prospective employee its less of an issue for existing employees as long as they are open about it and are on top of it.
It used to go down as a disciplinary but the only time I ever knew anyone to actually have a real problem was when a random check showed she had about 8 accounts in default and over limits etc0 -
I didn't really want to draw their attention to it tbh? Being a senior role it's really embarrassing and whilst I can explain circumstances and feel the matter is resolved it's haunting me. I was wondering if they can insist on the search really and how they can take retrospective action.0
