Any accountant here willing to help me with my new job tax?

Options
Anyone here like to play with numbers? I am having a headache.

I have received my 1st payslip and I can't make sense of it all.
Just looking for some help and suggestions so I have an idea of what to ask and how to understand any communication with the payroll office.
I will be back in the evening to post the (long) details....

  • This is a useful site:

    https://www.listentotaxman.com

You put in your tax code / gross pay etc and it calculates what you should be taking home.

If you have questions on other issues, there are plenty of us here willing to help you :)
  • There are accountants and non-accountants alike here who will try and help you but only if you post all the relevant details, such as your tax code, when you started your job, your gross and net pay and a breakdown of your deductions.

    Ok here we go.

Part time job at school, council employer.
Job start date was 1st of september as per contact but they moved it for the 8th of September. Started working 2 hours a day 5 days per week, so 10 hours per week. After the first week they moved it for 11.5 hours a week. Since then I have been working few extra hours here and there all logged but was told won't receive all the extras until Christmas (?).

    Pay is £8.37 per hour.

Cut off date is every 25th and pay day every 15th.

No previous P45 but I am also part time self employed (25 hours a week) so don't know if it affects the tax and payslip etc.
I received an emergency payment of £193.76 on 30/9 as they didn't pay me on the 15th.

Details of 1st and only payslip:

    Payment date 15/10
    Period end 31/10 (?)
    Tax week/Month - 7
    Tax code BR/0

    Taxable Pay £610.36
    Total deductions £351.28
    Net pay £294.60

Total payments £645.88 (Gross Pay) (Pensionable Pay)
    Pension contributions £35.22
    Income Tax £122
    National Insurance - 0
    Manual Pay deduct £193.76
    Tax £61
    WBC LGPS 5,5% £17.76

    Salary - £322.94
Money that entered my account £294.60

Now the hours I have done so far (start from 1st September)
    Week 1 - 0 hours
    Week 2 - 10 hours
    Week 3 - 11.5 hours
Week 4 - 11.5 hours (training day for the whole day. I was told I was gonna get paid so assumed the normal hours)
    Week 5 - 12.5 hours
    Week 7 - 15.5 hours
Week 8 - 14 hours (it is this week and I am not schedule to do any extra)

    So? Isn't complicated?

I would get your tax code changed and just sort the tax when you do your SA. Keep approx 35% of self employed earnings aside gor when the time comes.

when you starte dthe job what did your tell them about your circumstances

-this was was first only only job this year
--you will have two jobs this year
  • How do I get my tax code changed? Do I talk to HMRC, the school or the council? Also who should I contact to give me correct explanation?
Yes, they knew I was already self employed and I filled the form with national insurance number etc. But regardeless my other job the info on this payslip is just odd I think.
  • Why they charge income tax and other tax? Also the ammount seems to high for that low income?
  • Also, those are my wages up to 25th September? Then on 15th of November I receive wages from 26th September up to 25th October. Is that right?
  • Nope, I wasn't given a P46 to fill in.
