I have never really shared a great deal of my self imposed struggle on here. Occasionally I have commented or posted but mostly I have lurked.
I have had upto 6 defaults registered against my name. Now I have 3 the last one drops off on the 1st April 2015.
My biggest achievement has come today when I closed my account with Vanquis. I was politely threatened that by doing so I could never again apply for a credit card with them again.:T thank God for that.
Keep going everybody, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I give it two months and Vanquis will be begging you take out another card with them.
Good on you for reaching a good milestone though!0 -
Thanks
it is important to me, I cleared all my debts sometime ago but the state of my credit history meant that if I wanted to repair and rebuild Vanquis was one of my only options. I can't say I had a bad experience with them, because I didn't. However I now have 2 mainstream credit cards with very good rates and have been accepted for mortgage again with a very good rate! And I still have 3 defaults on my report. It hasn't been easy building up a decent credit report at times I truly believed it would never happen. I wanted to share this so as those in a similar to place to where I was can see that you can beat anything! 0 -
Oh and my credit cards - one is for online shopping / use abroad and is always cleared before interest accumulates. While my new on (halifax) has 16 months interest free on purchases. I can finally start stoozing!0

Well done - it is nice to see you being positive

I hate Vanquis with a passion - targeted someone very close to me who is vulnerable when it comes to money. Wish I could give them a piece of my mind sometimes
Keep strong, and let us know how things go

Congratulations!
can I ask a few questions? I too had around 6 defaults which Iv whittled down to 2, 1 of £140 and one £500 also have a ccj of £4000 for tuition fees which I believe student loans company should have (and agreed to pay) only for them to withdraw!
I can't even get a vanquis card or even a contract phone! I have no credit card no overdraft nothing because I get declined so can I ask how you got your credit cards and mortgage? Is it a matter of waiting?
I guess my ccj is the big thing :-(0 -
Thanks everyone

@lolstevo
I initially used a pre paid mastercard with a credit builder feature (that was about 4 years ago), they essentially loan you £52 over a year but if you preload the card and don't use it you will never miss a payment. After about 6 months I was accepted by vanquis. After a year or so with Vanquis my credit rating went up and up and up. Now that my defaults are so old I think my more recent history overides them into near insignificance.
The only thing I would say if and when the time comes and you have a vanquis card in your wallet. Use it only to rebuild your credit. Ie clear the full balance everymonth
With their interest rates it will not take long before you are in trouble again.
I also researched alot became a credit expert myself and wqs forced to learn paitience.
At times having a poor credit record can be so detrimental to your whole life but you must ride out every wave.
good luck!0 -
