I recently moved employer (which will be for 6 months), on checking my payslip they have not taken my student loan payment.

I know that student loan payments should be the last money you ever pay back and I have an overdraft to pay off at the moment too. If I ignore this for the next 6 months (I'm sure it will revert to normal once I go back to the other employer in 6 months) will I have to pay these missed student loan payments back when/if someone notices?

I don't know how it works, but I didn't want for example the SLC to present the company with a 6 month student loans payment bill at the end of the financial year and then the company to pass this onto me as it wasn't paid out of my wages at the time. But on the other hand the extra money per month would be very useful to pay off the overdraft if it's likely to never be picked up on or just rectified from now on (not backpayments) if it is found.

Yes you will have to pay it off and technically they could ask you to pay the arrears in one sum when they find out (which they will, your loan would not reconcile to 0 and Im sure they have regular checks against your earnings against your SL payments).
  • The SLC is one of the worst god damn lenders you will ever meet, they will come after you and they won't miss a thing. Contact them.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
