Your house sounds like mine.

In Summer I keep curtains shut while out to try and cool the rooms.

Poppy got a special fleece thing under her blankets in kitchen mum bought it her its suppose to keep her cool in Summer and warm in Winter. Hope it works she had it a couple year.
